Thank you for choosing the Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Wi-Fi.

To get the most from your wireless router and to keep it in the best condition please read this manual thoroughly.

Quick Reference Section

Home page	192.168.0.1 or telstra.wifi.4g
Admin login	password
Default SSID	TPP4G_6digits -  shown on the main display
Default Security Key	Enter the characters shown on the main display. Note this is case sensitive.
Restore defaults	Open the back cover. The reset button is found next to the USB power socket. Press gently with a pen tip or pin. All passwords and settings will be restored to defaults and the router will reboot.

 

IMPORTANT: Security Settings - SSID and Wi-Fi Security Key (WPA Key)

·   By default the Wi-Fi SSID and password are displayed on the main display.

·   They are also printed on the label underneath the battery and on the security card provided in the box.

·   Use this information to connect all your devices to your Wi-Fi router.

·   To switch off the password display, log into the web interface and navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > WiFi Password Viewable.

 

1. A QUICK LOOK AT YOUR DEVICE

1. On / Off button - Press and hold for 1-2 seconds to switch on or off.

2. microSD(HC)™ slot for expandable memory up to 32GB

3. WPS – Press to enable Wi-Fi Protected Setup authentication process.

4. Power socket - Connect to your computer or AC charger for battery charging.

5. Antenna ports – Connect an external antenna to boost your signal. The connector type is TS5 and antennas are widely available from Telstra dealers.

2. INSERT YOUR SIM CARD AND BATTERY

1. Open the back cover using the thumb catch at the base of the device.

2. Insert the (U)SIM card with the gold contacts facing down as shown. Push the SIM card in as far as it will go.
          

3. Insert the battery with the contacts located against the gold springs:

     

4. Line up the back cover and press gently to snap back into place.

5. The reset button is located adjacent to the USB power socket and is accessed with back cover removed.

6. Press gently with a pen tip or pin to restore all settings to factory default.

 

3. SWITCH ON AND CHARGE YOUR ROUTER

1.    Hold the power button down for 1-2 seconds to switch on your device.

2.    The power plug only fits one way. Check the plug is the right way round and insert it gently.  Do not use excessive force to insert the plug.

3.    Insert the other end of the charger lead into the AC charger supplied or a USB socket on your computer.

 

Note for USB Charging

USB power is not sufficient for extended/heavy usage, in such circumstances it is recommended to use the power supply and connect to the router via Wi-Fi.

Insert a microSD™ memory card (Optional Accessory)

To use the device as a portable storage drive insert a microSD™(HC) card up to 32GB:

·      Open the memory card slot cover on the left hand side of the router.

·      Insert the microSD™ card as shown and press gently to click into place:

·      Connect the wireless router to your computer using the USB cable supplied and the memory card will display as an external drive.

 

4. CONNECT TO THE INTERNET

Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your computer or other device,  then search for available Wi-Fi networks.

You need to connect to the Wi-Fi network called TPP4G, which is your Telstra Pre-Pay 4G Wi-Fi device.

Enter the password shown on the front display of your Pre-Pay Wi-Fi.

After entering the password you will be connected to the internet automatically (default setting) so you are now ready to browse, work and play with super fast wireless broadband speeds.

You can connect up to ten different devices to your Wi-Fi router. Repeat the same steps on each device to connect them to your Wi-Fi router.

Most devices will remember the network name and password and will automatically connect whenever the Wi-Fi router is on and in range.

 

Roaming

The roaming icon  indicates you are connected to another network from your service provider. High data charges can apply, depending on your network sharing agreements.

If travelling overseas you are advised to contact your service provider to determine the lowest cost network sharing available.

 

Low Power Mode (Standby Mode)

If there is no Wi-Fi device connected to the wireless router it will go into low power mode (standby mode) after 10 minutes (default setting).

·   Press the Power key or the WPS key to wake up your device

 

Connecting an External Antenna (optional)

Using an external antenna may be recommended in areas of lower coverage to  improve your router performance.

TS5 termination antennas are available from your retailer.  Insert the connector carefully to avoid damage to your router.

5. USING THE WEB INTERFACE

The router configuration pages are accessed from a web browser.

 

Login to the Web based User Interface

·   Use your computer to Search and Connect to the TPP4G Wireless Network.

·   Open a web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 or telstra.wifi.4g  in the address bar

·   The Admin Login = password

 

Connection Tab

The Connection Tab shows a high level summary of the your device status.

 

Settings Tab

The Settings tab is intended for advanced users and network administrators. For normal use there is no need to change any settings.

 

Record Tab

The Record tab shows your Received and Sent data records.

 

 

 

Device Information, Software Updates

Device Information shows information about your hardware and software versions and Network conditions.

Check Device Information > Update Info to manually look for software upgrades.

If an upgrade is available you will see the following prompt:

Select ‘Now’ to download the update tool from the link provided.

Software update is only compatible with Windows.

Data charges apply for software updates. Contact your carrier for more information.

 

 

 

 

6. USING THE DEVICE AS A TETHERED MODEM

The mobile Wi-Fi can also be connected as a tethered modem which is a wired connection using the USB data lead.

·   Connect the modem to a computer using the USB lead provided.

·   Browse to the CD ROM and double click Autorun.exe to install the network drivers as shown above.

·   MAC users, double click the CD device on the desktop.

·   After installation, Eject the CD ROM device to enable network connectivity.

·   The modem supports NDIS so presents a Network adaptor in the Network and Sharing centre.

 

7. TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Symptoms	Possible Problems/ Solutions
I cannot access the internet at all.	Check the display status. Make sure your SIM card is inserted correctly. Check you have network coverage in your area. Check that your SIM card is active and enabled with data services. Please wait 1~ 2 minutes for the router to initialise.
The download or upload speeds are slow.	The speed is dependent on signal strength. Check your signal strength and network type.
What is AP Isolation?	Access Point Isolation mode (Settings > Wi-Fi settings) prevents connected devices from accessing shared resources. With AP isolation disabled, shared resources can be browsed by anyone connected to the mobile Wi-Fi. Enabling AP isolation blocks sharing between devices, but still allows internet connection.
The signal indicator is always low.	This indicates poor reception. Try moving the router to another location e.g. nearer the window. Purchase optional external antenna(s) to improve coverage.
My battery has not charged while in use and connected to the charger	In low coverage or high data transfer modes the internal temperature of the device can rise  above 45C.  In these conditions the battery cannot be charged due to safety limits with  Li-ion battery technology.
Warranty Support	All calls and support for PIN numbers, SIM cards, account and billing, Network and Service provision should be directed to your Service Provider.
How do I hide my SSID and Password on the main display?	Log into the web interface and navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi Settings to select your preferred options.

9. OTHER INFORMATION

Computer Requirements

The router will operate with any PC, MAC or other device that supports Wi-Fi and has a standard internet browser installed.

ZTE cannot guarantee that third party hardware or software is compatible with this product.

 

Warnings and Safety Notices

Please read all the safety notices before using this device.

Do not use the router near fuel or chemicals or in any prescribed area such as service stations, refineries, hospitals and aircraft. Obey all warning signs where posted.

 

Safety Information

The router has an internal antenna. For optimum performance with minimum power consumption do not shield the device or cover with any object.

Covering the antenna affects signal quality, may cause the router to operate at a higher power level than needed, and may shorten battery life.

 

Radio Frequency Energy

Your wireless router is a low-power radio transmitter and receiver. When switched on it intermittently transmits radio frequency (RF) energy (radio waves).

The transmit power level is optimised for best performance and automatically reduces when there is good quality reception.

Maximum power is only used at the edge of network coverage so under most circumstances the power output is very low.

Under poor network conditions the router transmits at a higher power, may get hot and have a significantly shorter battery life.

Warnings and Safety Notices

Some electronic devices may be susceptible to electromagnetic interference. Locate the router away from electronic equipment to avoid interference.

The router may interfere with medical devices like hearing aids and pacemakers.

1. Do not use your router in dangerous environments such as oil terminals or chemical factories. Obey all warning notices and switch off your router in such environments.

2. Please use original accessories or accessories that are authorised by ZTE. Unauthorised accessories may affect the router performance, damage the router or invalidate your warranty.

3. Do not attempt to dismantle the router. There are no user serviceable parts.

4. Do not allow the router or accessories to come into contact with liquid or moisture at any time. The router contains a liquid detection sticker that changes colour when exposed to liquids. Liquid damage will invalidate your warranty.

5. Do not place objects on top of the router or restrict air flow around the device. This may lead to overheating of the device or affect signal quality.

6. Do not expose the router to direct sunlight or store it in hot areas. High temperature can shorten the life of electronic devices.

7. Do not allow children to play with the router or charger.

8. The router and charger are for indoor use only.

 

Cleaning and Maintaining

Use an antistatic cloth to clean the router. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents or abrasive cleaners as these could damage the case.

 

Network Lock

·   Your wireless router is locked to the Telstra network.

·   When you insert a non-Telstra SIM card you are presented with unlock instructions.

·   Contact Telstra to obtain your 16 digit unlock code.

·   An unlocking fee may apply.

·   5 incorrect attempts will block the unlock process and the device will then only work with a Telstra SIM card.
