1.The modem connection

To install the modem, follow the step-by-step instruction to make sure that you have made it correctly.

Step 1. Installation of SIM card

Pull out the SIM card holder from the modem.

Insert SIM card in the proper direction.

Make sure that SIM card is tightly inserted.

Then push the SIM card holder back into the modem. When installing the interface, do not use excessive efforts to avoid damage of it.

 

Step 2. Connecting of the modem with PC

Insert USB interface of the modem into any idle USB port of PC.

Step 3. Installation of application

USB-modem “Beeline” application will start automatically after a while. Wait until the program is installed and then follow the prompts. When installing, do not disconnect the modem from PC.

If automatic installation fails, perform it manually:

·         Open ‘My computer’, to make it, double-click  My computer icon on the desktop. If the icon is unavailable on the desktop, press Start button in the left corner of the screen and find the “My computer”  icon in pop-up window.

·         In the “My computer” window, open “Beeline” disk.

·         In the open window find AutoRun.exe file and execute it.

·         Then follow installation program prompts and do not disconnect the modem from PC.

·         Then start the application for USB-modem “Beeline”. To make it, find the application icon  on the desktop of your PC and double-click it.

 

 

2. Connection to Internet

Step 1. Start balance activation

The start balance activation is necessary upon first installation of the USB-modem “Beeline” application, when you want to connect to Internet.

-           Open the “Account management” window in main menu of the application.

-           Select “Start balance activation”.

-           Press “Activate’ button and wait until the system prompts of successful activation of start balance.

Step 2. Connection to Internet

-           Open “Connection’ menu in main menu of the application.

-           Press “Connect” button. In few seconds, your PC will connect to Internet.

Step 3. Operation in Internet

-           On your desktop, find the browser icon (usually Internet Explorer identified as ) and double-click it.

-           After the browser startup, enter www.beeline.ru in the address bar. If you see Beeline home page in the browser window, it means that connection is successful.

Disconnection from Internet

To disconnect from Internet, enter the “Connection” section and click “Disconnect”.

Note: If you are subscribed for monthly charged traffic, then before using Internet, you need to replenish your account to the sum of monthly payment.

Monthly fee will be written off at night following activation of start balance. Before that, remote connection will be charged per megabytes in accordance with your charging scheme (tariff). We recommend that you begin using the modem next day after activation of start balance.

 

 

3. Payment for service

To pay for Internet service, check your balance account, change your charging scheme or subscribe for supplement services, use the Account management in main menu of the application. The following payment methods are available:

·         By cash

·         Using Beeline cards

·         Using a bank card

·         Through request for money from another subscriber

3.1 Balance account check

USB-modem “Beeline” service will be charged monthly. To control payments and check Internet traffic left, you can use "My account”.

·         Open “Account management” in main menu of the application.

·         Select “My account’ and press “Check account” button.

·         Wait for the system response with money and Internet traffic left.

3.2 SIM-card phone number

To pay for Internet, to access to the Internet system for Beeline services management and to send SMS messages to your modem, you need to know the phone number of the SIM-card installed in the modem.

·         Open the “Account management” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Choose “My number” service and press “My number”.

·         You’ll receive SMS message with the SIM-card phone number on your computer.

·         You can find SMS messages in ‘Communication”, SMS tab in the “Incoming” folder. Remember or write down the received phone number of your SIM-card.

3.3 Payment using Beeline cards

Purchase one of the Beeline payment cards of any nominal value (you pay for mobile communication using these cards), erase the protective coat and then activate it.

·         Enter the “Account management” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Select “Payment card activation” service.

·         In Secret code field input all digits of the secret code of the card (without spaces and hyphens).

·         After the number input click “Activate”.

·         You’ll receive SMS message of receipt of the activated sum onto your account on your computer.

3.4 Cash payment

In cash desks, at petrol stations etc.

·         Tell the phone number of your SIM card to the cashier.

·         Following payment, receive the cheque and save it.

In dealer offices and at the bank cashier’s desks

·         Obtain and fill in the receipt specifying the phone number of SIM card of your modem and the payment sum.

·         Receive the receipt and save it.

3.5 Payment using a bank card

Using cash dispenser

·         Insert your bankcard into a cash dispenser (card terminal) and enter PIN-code.

·         Select the “Payment” section and enter the phone number of the SIM card of your modem and the payment sum.

·         Obtain the receipt and save it.

Using Internet site of a bank

The most of the banks allow their clients to manage the account using Internet site including payment for Internet access services. To pay for Beeline Internet, perform the following:

·         Ask the bank that issued a plastic card for the website using which you can manage the account.

·         Enter the bank website and select the “Payment” section in the services payment menu.

·         Select the Beeline operator and specify the phone number of the SIM card of your modem.

3.6 Request for money from another subscriber

 

You can ask another Beeline subscriber to recharge your account using the payment card, by cash or by money transfer from his account.

To ask another Beeline subscriber to recharge your account, perform the following:

·         Enter the “Account management” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Select the “Request for money from another subscriber” service.

·         In the Subscriber number field enter the number of subscriber you are asking to recharge your account. The number shall be entered in the format without 8, e.g.: 9034124060.

·         After the number input click Request.

·         The request recipient will receive your SMS with the following text: This subscriber asks you to recharge his account. SMS will also notify you of the request delivery.

3.7 Account details

 

You can receive the detailed report on the Internet traffic and sent SMS for a specified period in the Internet system of the Beeline services management.

To enter this section, input Login and password.

·         Enter the “Account management” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Select the “Service management” through Internet service and click “Obtain password”.

·         You’ll receive SMS message with login and password at your computer.

·         Use them to enter the Internet system of Beeline services management at the address https://uslugi.beeline.ru.

Please note: You can ask another subscriber for money up to 5 times a day (from 00:00 to 24:00 Moscow).

Prefix https:// in the address is mandatory. It guarantees that you can obtain your data using a secure protocol.

 

 

4. Supplement services

Communication

Use the “Communication” section services for communication with your friends.

4.1 SMS

How to send a message

·         Enter the “Communication” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Select the SMS tab and click  icon (New message).

·         In the open window in the “To:” field enter or select from the contact list the subscriber you are sending a message. The number shall be entered in the format with 7, without hyphens and spaces, e.g.:+79031234567.

·         In the Message field type the message.

·         Then click “Send”.

Available folders

·         Incoming. Received SMS are stored in it.

·         Sent. SMS sent to another subscribers are stored in it.

·         Drafts. The messages that you wrote but have not sent and decided to keep for future are stored here. You can send them any time.

4.2 Contacts

If you often send SMS to particular recipient range, you can save their numbers in the contact list.

·         Enter the “Communication” section in the main menu of the application.

·         Select the “Contacts” tab and click  icon (New contact).

·         In the open window in the field Contact name enter the name of your talker, and enter his number in format with 7, without hyphens and spaces, e.g.: +79031234567 in the Mobile phone field.

·         Then click “Save”.

To send SMS to recipient from contact list:

·         Enter the “Contacts” tab.

·         Select the recipient from the list and click  icon (Send SMS).

·         In the open window enter the message text and click Send.

Please note: SMS can be stored in the computer memory or SIM card of your modem for indefinite time.

 

5. Services and tariff management

USB-modem “Beeline” provides supplementary features and services that you can enable by yourself.

5.1 Services activation and deactivation

The description of all services available for your tariff plan you can find at http://modem.beeline.ru in the “Services” section.

After you have selected the service, perform the following:

·         Start the application for the USB-modem “Beeline”. If the application has been already started and Internet connection is established, then enter the “Connection” section in the main menu of the application and press “Disable”.

·         Enter the ‘Account management” section.

·         Select the ‘Services activation and deactivation service’.

·         In the ‘Command” field enter the service activation command and click ‘Send’.

5.2 Tariff plan change

You can switch to any of the tariff plans of the Beeline USM modem any time. Upon that, the phone number of your SIM card installed in the modem will remain unchanged.

You can find description of the tariff plans and tariff conditions at http://modem.beeline.ru in the section of ‘Tariffs”.

After you have found the tariff, perform the following:

·         Start the application for the USB-modem “Beeline”. If the application has been already started and the Internet connection is established, enter the “Connection” section in the main menu of the application and click ‘Disable”.

·         Enter the “Account management’ section.

·         Select the “Tariff plan change” service.

·         In the Command field enter the change command specified in the section of tariff description selected by you. After that click ‘Send”.

·         Selected tariff plan will be activated next day.

Please note:

Some services can be activated for charge, so you shall have money on your account.

Some services can be enabled this day, but will be operable the next day only. Please carefully read the services description!

Change to some tariff plans can be charged; in this case, the tariff plan can be changed only if you have sufficient money on your account.

Even if the number is locked, the subscriber fee will be written off from your account if it is provided by your tariff plan.

 

6. Modem settings

You can find configuration parameters of your modem in the Settings section. Do not change them if not necessary. Before changing, carefully get acquainted with description of these parameters.

6.1 Autorun settings

The subsection contains parameters of auto operation mode of some application functions of the USB-modem “Beeline”:

-           Auto run upon Windows starting – the application will run automatically every time when you turn on your computer.

-           Fold up the window after connecting to Internet– the application will be folded up automatically on the system tray after connection setup.

6.2 Network settings

The subsection contains setting for the mode in which the modem will be registered in roaming, and setting of GSM or 3G networks priority.

6.3 Message settings

The subsection contains parameters of SMS delivery report and selection of SMS storage location:

In computer memory – it has unlimited capacity but does not enable to move the saved messages to another modem.

In SIM card memory – it has limited capacity but enables to move the contacts to another modem along with the SIM-card.

6.4 Modem information

In this subsection, you can find reference information of Internet connection status, SIM card, Internet connection profile settings and information regarding modem and your computer parameters. When applying the customer support service, be ready to provide the reference information from this subsection.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Modem indicator

You can check the modem availability by the indicator status.

7.2 Troubleshooting by yourself

 

The indicator is off on the modem.

Possible cause

Solution

The Modem is not connected to the operating USB port of the computer.

Check if the modem is reliably connected to USB port. If modem still does not work, try to connect it to another USB port.

 

The indicator does not burn green or blue. The modem fails to find the Beeline network. Connection fails.

Possible cause

Solution

Insufficient signal strength.

 

Move the modem to the place with better signal strength (e.g., close to a window). Use the extension cable.

No SIM card is inserted when connecting the modem to USB port.

Disconnect the modem from the computer. Insert the Beeline SIM card into the modem and connect the modem to the computer.

Incorrect installation of the USB-modem “Beeline” application.

 

Deleted the incorrectly installed application and reinstall it:

- enter the Start menu,

- select the ‘Control panel” section,

- then click the “Program installation and deletion” icon

- select application for the USB-modemBeeline”  in the appeared window and click “Delete’. Follow the wizard prompts.

If deletion fails, follow the procedure in the instruction to your computer or call OS manufacturer’s hotline.

After the application is deleted, restart the computer and install the application again.

Conflicts with other programs.

Close or remove other communication programs that can connect to the modem.

Micro SD memory card is jointly used with 3m extension USB cable.

Disconnect USB modem from the computer, remove the memory card and then use 3-meter extension USB cable. If you want to use the memory card, then connect the modem directly to the computer or use the short USB cable included in the connection kit.

 

I can’t use the “Account management’ section services (‘Payment card activation”, “My number”, “Tariff plan change” etc.).

Possible cause

Solution

The modem is connected to Internet.

Enter the “Connection” section in the main menu of the application and click “Disable”.

Then enter the ‘Account management” section and use the required service.

 

Indicators are on, SMS can be sent, but I can’t connect to Internet.

Possible cause

Solution

Money insufficient for monthly payment.

Check the sum on your account using the ‘My balance” service, and if money is insufficient, then replenish up to the sum of the monthly payment according to the tariff plan you selected. The monthly payment and Internet traffic will be written off the next night.

 

The modem fails to work with micro SD memory card

Possible cause

Solution

Joint use of micro SD memory card and 3-meter extension USB cable.

Disconnect the USB modem from the computer, remove the memory card from it and then use 3-meter extension USB cable. If you want to use the memory card, then connect the modem directly to the computer or use the short USB cable included in the connection kit.

Improper micro SD memory card is used.

The modem can operate with memory cards with capacity up to 4 Gb.

Unstable operation of the modem

Possible cause

Solution

The USB-modem “Beeline”  application is incorrectly installed, or third party software is used.

Reinstall the application. Joint operation of the SIM card, application and the modem included in the connection kit is guaranteed.

The used SIM card is not from the USB-modem “Beeline” connection kit.

Use standard features of your operating system for Internet access

8. Customer service

8.1 Restoration of lost SIM card

You can obtain a new SIM card if your SIM card has been locked or lost. Upon that, your phone number, tariff plan and balance of account will remain unchanged (if you have pre-paid tariff). 8.2 SIM card number locking

You can lock the SIM card phone number if you have lost your SIM card or do not want to use the modem for the time being. The number can be locked:

-           Through the Internet system of the Beeline services management at the address https://uslugi.beeline.ru.

-           In Beeline offices

9. Modem information

9.1 Modem package

Additional information:

The modem might have a connector to connect an external antenna, it is MP 2.1.

The antenna has to have the next characteristics:

The connector type: MP 2.1

Frequency: UMTS 2100, EDGE/GPRS/GSMS 900/1800.

 

Attention: Do NOT connect any inappropriate antenna to the modem. It can lead the modem to crash.

10.5 SIM card protection

Take safety measures to prevent electrostatic discharges when you remove or insert SIM card. For safety, before you remove or insert SIM card, first take the modem into your hands.

10.6 Restart upon electrostatic discharge

The software will try to reset the connection, if strong electrostatic discharge cause modem restart. If the software fails after electrostatic discharge, restart the modem program.
